Read about some of the ways we can work to green our economy and create meaningful employment while protecting workers and the environment.
Green Energy: The world needs more green energy. With conventional energy use driving climate change, air pollution and the build up of toxics like mercury in our environment, we need to rapidly shift to cleaner energy sources like wind, solar, geothermal and hydro.
Carbon Pricing: Pollution should not be free. That is the principle we have adopted for everything from garbage disposal to wastewater treatment. But when it comes to pumping pollution into our air, we mostly treat the atmosphere as a giant free garbage dump. It’s not sustainable, and it’s not right.
Green Chemistry: Exposure to toxic chemicals should not be "just part of the job". Exposure to toxic chemicals through the use of consumer products should not be just part of life. And the release of toxic substances into our environment should not be just business as usual.
Waste Diversion: There is gold in those waste streams. In our throw away society, we are burying, burning and dumping materials that we should be reusing or recycling. In the process, we are wasting energy, non-renewable resources, polluting our environment and undercutting job creation.
