Building the Green Economy: Employment Effects of Green Energy Investments For Ontario.
Blue Green Canada, WWF-Canada and the Green Energy Act Alliance.
May 2009
This study shows that Ontario could create up to 90,000 jobs through investments in green energy and grid upgrades, if they adopt a more ambitious plan than the current Green Energy Act. Conducted by an expert in the economics of building a clean-energy economy and co-director of the Political Economy Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the author finds that a total investment of $47.1 billion over 10 years would result in 90,000 jobs per year. By comparison, the Ontario Power Authority's plan, with investments totalling $18.6 billion over 10 years would result in the creation of 35,000 jobs per year.
Cap and Trade Design Principles For Canada
Blue Green Canada
2009
This report outlines 6 recommendations for Cap and Trade legislation for Canada. It must: protect our environment; cover as many emitting activities as possible, promote the creation and retention of good green Canadian jobs; reduce global emissions rather than shift carbon-emitting industries to countries with weaker standards; regulate pollution from the oil sands; and direct cap and trade revenues and allowances domestically to public benefit.
